Born in Tokyo, 1954.After working as f fold singer and scenario writer, he produced his first directorial feature "Closing Time" in 1996.His films were invited to Cannes for three years in a row with "Bootleg Film" (1999), "Koroshi" (2000) and "Man Walking on Snow" (2001)."Amazing Story" (2003) won a special mention at the Locarno International Film Festival.Following its premiere in competition at Cannes International Film Festival in 2005, "Bashing" went on to win the Grand Prize for best film at Tokyo Filmex."The Rebirth" went on to win the Golden Leopard and three other prizes at Locarno International Film Festival in 2007.
